The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that higher ancillary services (AS) rates have driven up transmission charges for power consumers this November.
AS rates, which cover standby power supplied by generators, rose by ₱0.0997 per kilowatt hour (kWh) — from ₱0.6546 to ₱0.7542.
NGCP Regulatory Management head Julius Ryan Datingaling said the increase was mainly due to higher oil prices affecting reserve power costs.
Transmission wheeling charges also climbed by ₱0.0034/kWh to ₱0.5953/kWh.
As a result, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) reported that overall electricity rates rose to ₱13.4702/kWh this month from ₱13.3182/kWh in October.
