Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) received a solar-powered irrigation pump from the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) to help boost agricultural production in Ilocos Norte.
The system turned over on March 27 at MMSU’s Batac Campus, is part of NIA’s initiative to replace outdated diesel pumps with sustainable, energy-efficient alternatives.
It includes solar panels, pumps, and storage systems designed to provide a reliable water supply for crops.
MMSU and NIA officials highlighted the project’s dual role in supporting farmers and serving as a hands-on learning tool for students.
NIA is also committed to installing another solar pump at MMSU’s Dingras Campus to expand its reach to more farming communities.
