MARCOS EYES FULLY CAPABLE MILITARY BY 2028

Malacañang emphasized on Monday that the government’s procurement of additional air assets, including F-16 fighter jets, is part of the ongoing military modernization program and not aimed at provoking other countries.

PCO Undersecretary Claire Castro said the move falls under Horizon 3 of the Revised AFP Modernization Program and is aligned with national defense goals.

She responded to Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez’s statement that the acquisition is a counter to China’s actions in the West Philippine Sea, clarifying that modernization is being pursued lawfully and independently.

The Palace also backs AFP Chief Gen. Romeo Brawner’s push to acquire more missile systems, warships, and fighter jets.

President Marcos aims for a fully capable military by the end of his term in 2028, with lawmakers like Rep. Paolo Ortega supporting the F-16 deal as a step toward self-reliance.
