President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed government agencies to provide immediate legal assistance to Filipinos facing criminal charges in China and South Korea.
The order follows recent diplomatic efforts that secured the release of OFWs in Qatar, highlighting the administration’s continued commitment to protecting overseas Filipino workers.
The directive comes amid reports that 20 Filipino seafarers are under investigation for allegedly smuggling cocaine from South America into East Asia.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac confirmed the ongoing probe and assured that those involved will receive proper legal counsel.
Additionally, Marcos ordered support for three Filipinos detained in China over alleged espionage, as tensions between Manila and Beijing escalated.
