Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval has signed an ordinance declaring renowned historian and writer Epifanio Delos Santos a local hero.
Born in Malabon in 1871, Delos Santos was a distinguished scholar, public servant, and nationalist whose legacy includes the renaming of Highway 54 to Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).
The ordinance mandates April 7, his birthday, as a special non-working holiday and calls for statues, markers, and other commemorations in his honor.
Mayor Sandoval praised the city council, led by Vice Mayor Edwin Nolasco, for enacting the historic measure aimed at inspiring future generations.
The city also continues the “Natatanging Epifanio Delos Santos Gawad Parangal,” which honors exemplary Malabueños.
