The Makabayan bloc in the House expressed dissatisfaction with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure’s (ICI) recommendation to charge several officials, including Senators Joel Villanueva and Jinggoy Estrada, over alleged corruption in flood control projects.
While acknowledging the move as “long-overdue,” the bloc said it is far from satisfactory given the scale and entrenched nature of the corruption.
They stressed that more high-ranking officials and masterminds behind the scheme should be held accountable.
Makabayan lawmakers also called for genuine investigations, swift prosecutions, and recovery of stolen funds, saying mere inclusion of names on a list is insufficient.
The bloc emphasized that flood control funds are meant to protect the public, not enrich the powerful, and demanded full transparency and true accountability.
