President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Maguindanao Del Norte Governor Abdulraof Macacua as the interim chief minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Macacua replaces Ahod Balawag “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim, the chair of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), according to Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro.
Previously, Macacua served as the chief of staff of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces and was a commissioner of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission, which helped draft the Bangsamoro Organic Law.
His appointment comes as BARMM prepares for its first parliamentary elections in October.
Macacua will serve in the role until the elected officials are officially proclaimed.
