The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved special permits for 847 additional buses to handle the expected surge of passengers traveling to the provinces for Undas.
Most of the buses will operate on 124 routes in Metro Manila and Luzon, with 491 units serving Northern Luzon, 189 for Southern Luzon, and 67 for Bicol, while the rest will cover Visayas, Mindanao, and other Luzon areas.
LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza emphasized that bus companies must ensure roadworthiness and the readiness of drivers and conductors at all times.
The agency will continue monitoring terminals and transport hubs as the travel rush coincides with school wellness breaks starting October 27.
Earlier this week, the LTFRB penalized 22 bus units for operating illegal terminals as part of its enforcement drive.
