Batangas Rep. Leandro Legarda Leviste said Friday that he is traveling overseas at the request of administration representatives who allegedly asked him to “go abroad and stop releasing evidence” on an infrastructure corruption probe.
He did not confirm reports that he will visit 20 countries, but said he requested travel authority following the administration’s request, while remaining available to speak in Congress when allowed.
Leviste declined to name the officials who asked him to leave, saying the request was relayed through his mother, Senator Loren Legarda.
The neophyte lawmaker has been in the spotlight for proposing a P1,000 monthly allowance for all students and for exposing alleged pre-assignment of DPWH projects to lawmakers and contractors.
He claimed the evidence came from documents previously held by the late former Public Works Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral, sparking controversy over their credibility and his motives.
