The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) is backing mayors seeking a full and transparent accounting of the National Tax Allotment (NTA), which replaced the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA).
In a statement issued by its acting president, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, the LCP emphasized that the public would benefit from this full review to ensure that local government units (LGUs) receive their rightful share of national revenues.
Mayor Belmonte also expressed that the review was essential for improving service delivery, particularly as the demand for resources in cities continues to grow.
The Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG), led by Belmonte and Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong, is pushing for a dialogue with the finance department to rectify what they believe is a shortfall in the funds allocated to LGUs.
The NTA, mandated by a 2018 Supreme Court ruling, aims to expand LGU shares to include all national taxes, which had previously been limited.
