Labor groups have urged the government to suspend the recent Social Security System (SSS) contribution rate hike from 14% to 15%, calling it a burden on workers already facing high inflation.
Gabriela party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas described the hike as an insensitive “New Year’s gift,” which only adds to workers’ financial struggles.
Former Bayan Muna representative Neri Colmenares also criticized the move, pointing out the inefficiency in the SSS collection.
Both advocates stress the need for better economic relief, including wage increases.
They urged the Marcos administration to prioritize workers’ welfare.
