House Deputy Majority Leader Paolo Ortega revealed that more suspicious names were found on receipts justifying the Department of Education’s (DepEd) use of confidential funds (CFs) under Vice President Sara Duterte’s leadership.
Among the questionable names were “Amoy Liu,” “Fernan Amuy,” and “Joug De Asim,” with “asim” meaning sour in Filipino.
Ortega noted that these names, which had no records in the Philippine Statistics Authority’s registry, were submitted by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) to the Commission on Audit (COA).
The House investigation found that out of 1,992 CF recipients, a large number had no birth, marriage, or death records.
Ortega criticized Duterte’s response to the allegations, questioning how such funds ended up under non-existent names, and demanding to know where the documentation and answers were.
