The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has declared Lakas-CMD, led by Speaker Martin Romualdez, as the dominant majority party for the May midterm elections, with the Nacionalista Party as the dominant minority party.
Other major political parties include PDP-Laban, NPC, Liberal Party, and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. Romualdez hailed the decision as a reaffirmation of Lakas-CMD’s legacy in governance and its role in pushing the Marcos administration’s Bagong Pilipinas agenda.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia acknowledged concerns over the selection process, noting that current rules favor the second-ranked party rather than a genuine opposition.
The poll body will meet with political leaders to finalize election result-sharing guidelines and ensure a clean and credible electoral process.
