Senator Panfilo Lacson introduced the “Presidential Succession Act” to ensure the continuity of governance during exceptional circumstances that incapacitate the President or constitutional successors.
The bill aims to expand the current line of succession, which includes the Vice President, Senate President, and Speaker, to include senior Senators, senior Representatives, and a designated Cabinet member.
Lacson emphasized the importance of the bill in providing a clear and exhaustive line of succession to avoid a leadership vacuum in case of death, permanent disability, or resignation of the Acting President.
The proposed act builds on a previous bill filed in the 18th Congress, aiming to secure the stability of the government during crises.
This legislation would comply with the Constitution’s mandate for Congress to ensure a President is in office at all times.
