Filipino-Austrian singer JJ won the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel with his operatic-techno ballad “Wasted Love,” securing Austria’s first win since 2014.
The 24-year-old countertenor, whose real name is Johannes Pietsch, captivated audiences with his high notes, emotional lyrics, and a black-and-white retro-style performance.
Austria topped the scoreboard with 436 points, edging out Israel and Estonia in a tense finale.
JJ’s victory was celebrated by both Austrian officials and the Philippine Consulate, with messages highlighting the pride he brought to both nations.
The contest also saw political tensions, particularly surrounding Israel’s participation and related protests.
