IMEE MARCOS SET TO LOSE SENATE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE CHAIR

Sen. Imee Marcos will be replaced as chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Senate President Tito Sotto announced, citing the tradition that the post goes to a majority bloc member.

Marcos has led the committee since the previous Congress and used it to summon administration officials, including following former President Duterte’s ICC case.

The Senate initially allowed her to keep the post in hopes she would join the majority, but pending important treaties prompted leadership to assign it to a majority member instead.

Sotto denied the move was retaliation for her refusal to sign a resolution condemning Chinese Embassy statements, noting that only 15 senators signed it.

While a replacement has not been officially named, Sen. Erwin Tulfo has expressed interest, and Marcos reportedly declined an offer to chair the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.
