ILOILO CITY BANS POLITICAL CAMPAIGNING AT DINAGYANG FESTIVAL 2025

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas issued Executive Order 167, banning political materials and activities during the Dinagyang Festival 2025 to focus on its religious and cultural significance.

The order prohibits election-related propaganda within 20 meters of judging areas and bars participating tribes from endorsing candidates or parties.

Progressive group Bayan Panay criticized the EO, calling it hypocritical, as politicians still attend the event for early campaigning.

They vowed to use the festival to highlight social issues, accusing the city of repressing dissent while favoring those in power.

The Dinagyang Festival, honoring the Santo Niño, will take place on January 26.
