The House of Representatives has asked the Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling that voided the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte, asserting that it undermines Congress’s constitutional authority.
In a 70-page motion, the House emphasized it was not seeking political favor but defending its mandate to hold officials accountable, arguing that the SC’s ruling improperly interfered in legislative proceedings.
Speaker Martin Romualdez stressed the move was about constitutional stewardship, not defiance.
Meanwhile, Supreme Court Justices Hernando and Inting insisted that impeachment proceedings cannot carry over between different Congresses, further complicating the legal debate.
The Senate is set to deliberate the matter, with senators divided on whether to proceed with the impeachment trial or defer to the Court’s ruling.
