The House of Representatives has invited 40 social media personalities to join its investigation on the spread of fake news and disinformation in the country.
The joint committee, led by Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez, aims to examine how online disinformation affects public perception and national security, and the necessary measures to combat it.
The invited personalities include representatives from major social media platforms like Google, Meta, and TikTok, as well as officials from the NBI, PNP, and DOJ.
Lawmakers intend to identify gaps in existing laws and propose solutions to improve platform accountability, enforce penalties, and enhance digital literacy.
The hearing will be live-streamed to foster a national conversation on responsible online discourse and the role of social media in shaping public opinion.
