HOUSE PROSECUTORS REBUKE ZUBIRI’S ‘WITCH HUNT’ REMARK

House prosecutors criticized Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri for calling the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte a “witch hunt,” warning that such remarks could compromise the credibility of the proceedings.

Rep. Lorenz Defensor stressed that senator-judges should remain neutral and wait for evidence before making public judgments, while Rep. Leila De Lima said the trial is based on substantiated allegations, not political persecution.

The House impeached Duterte in February with overwhelming support from 215 lawmakers, arguing that the process reflects public mandate, not political scheming.

The Senate has yet to proceed with the trial, pending procedural debates, despite both sides having submitted initial legal documents.

Prosecutors remain confident in the strength of their case and urged fairness and impartiality from senator-judges moving forward.
