HOUSE PANEL DELAYS BILL REQUIRING BARANGAYS TO LIST SKILLED WORKERS

A House committee approved House Bill No. 481, which mandates barangays to create a registry of skilled workers.

Authored by Rep. Roman Romulo, the bill aims to complement existing employment lists by bringing the registry closer to communities, making it easier for workers like plumbers and carpenters to be recognized and accessed locally.

Supporters, including the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, say the measure will promote local jobs, prevent fraud, and boost grassroots economic activity.

Romulo noted he has been filing the bill since the 15th Congress, but it failed to pass previously due to a lack of a Senate counterpart.

The bill now moves forward after receiving unanimous committee approval.
