Sen. Risa Hontiveros urged Senate Finance Chairperson Sen. Grace Poe to ensure that the General Appropriations Act (GAA) does not exceed the Palace-approved National Expenditure Program (NEP).
Hontiveros criticized the 2024 national budget for reallocating funds from critical infrastructure projects like flood control to less urgent local initiatives.
She proposed a resolution to prevent such discrepancies in the future and protect the country’s priority funding.
Poe agreed with Hontiveros’ appeal, acknowledging the need for the GAA to align with the NEP.
