The camp of former Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista is set to file a motion for reconsideration after the Sandiganbayan convicted him of graft related to a P32 million contract for an online processing system in 2019.
Bautista’s lawyer, Nilo Divina, expressed disappointment over the decision, asserting that Bautista is innocent and no offense was committed.
Divina pointed out that the vote was split 2-1, suggesting reasonable doubt, and emphasized that the project was completed and delivered to the city, with payments made by the succeeding administration.
Both Bautista and former City Administrator Aldrin Cuña were sentenced to imprisonment and perpetual disqualification from holding public office.
Bautista denied any involvement in the alleged graft conspiracy, arguing that the contract was legitimate.
