Google Pay has officially launched in the Philippines, allowing Visa cardholders to add credit, debit, or prepaid cards to Google Wallet and make contactless payments.
The rollout involves initial partners, including Chinabank, EastWest Bank, GoTyme Bank, Maya Bank, RCBC, UnionBank, and Wise, with more banks expected to join before the year ends.
Lito Villanueva of the FinTech Alliance confirmed that Apple Pay could launch next year, pending final scheduling.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has approved both services, which aim to simplify transactions for Filipinos and visiting tourists.
Officials noted that the digital wallet services will help reduce payment bottlenecks and enhance convenience for domestic and international users.
