Vice President Sara Duterte accused Speaker Martin Romualdez and House Appropriations Committee Chair Zaldy Co of manipulating the national budget for their benefit.
In a recent interview, Duterte claimed that Romualdez and Co control and adjust budget allocations to serve their interests, citing specific incidents with the Department of Education’s budget.
She detailed how a P5 billion allocation for classroom construction was increased to P15 billion, with P10 billion supposedly controlled by Romualdez and Co.
Duterte also alleged that the DepEd’s 2024 budget was similarly manipulated, with P5 billion intended for repairs being reallocated to construction, leaving only P1 billion for repairs.
This controversy contributed to her resignation from her post as Education Secretary, as she refused to be held accountable for the alleged mismanagement.
