GEN. MARBIL’S RETIREMENT DELAYED: MARCOS APPROVES EXTENSION

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved a four-month extension for Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, delaying his retirement until June 2025.

The extension, which begins on February 7, was confirmed by a memorandum signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla assured that the decision would not cause unrest within the PNP, emphasizing the importance of institutional stability, particularly during election periods.

Marbil’s extension comes after President Marcos indicated he was considering it in January. The decision aims to ensure continuity in leadership for the PNP.
