French prosecutors on Tuesday appealed for more potential victims to come forward in a mass abuse case against Jacques Leveugle, a 79-year-old former teacher charged with raping and sexually assaulting at least 89 minors across several countries, including the Philippines, since the 1960s.
Authorities unusually disclosed the suspect’s identity to encourage unidentified victims to testify as the investigation races against time due to statutes of limitation and Leveugle’s age.
Prosecutors said Leveugle targeted boys aged 13 to 17, using charisma and moral coercion rather than physical violence, while presenting himself as a mentor.
Investigators have interviewed around 150 people so far, but only two victims have filed civil actions, despite extensive documents detailing decades of abuse.
Leveugle, who has been in custody since 2024, also confessed to killing his terminally ill mother and elderly aunt, acts he claimed were meant to end their suffering.
