FORMER DOF EXEC ACCUSED OF UNDERMINING MARCOS ADMIN

Former Finance Undersecretary Cielo Magno’s termination from her position was a result of her lack of support for the Marcos administration, according to Malacañang.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated that Magno’s termination was expected, as she consistently opposed the administration and its nation-building programs.

While acknowledging the right to free speech, Bersamin emphasized the contradiction of having someone who was set on maligning the administration as part of it.

Bersamin also pointed out that Magno had publicly expressed her opposition to the administration’s policies even before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. assumed office.

Instead of working collaboratively within the government to address concerns, Magno chose to raise them through public fora.

Magno announced her resignation on September 16, citing disagreements over economic policies as the reason. When asked if the decision came from the Palace, she denied any direct request regarding her post.

Reports suggest that Magno’s resignation was prompted by her opposition to the Marcos administration’s implementation of a price ceiling on rice.

On September 1, she shared a graph on Facebook illustrating the law of supply and demand, captioning it with “I miss teaching.” It was on the same day that the rice price cap was announced.

Following her resignation, Magno stated that she will be teaching at the University of the Philippines School of Economics.
