The first Philippine Handloom Weaving Festival (PHWF) brought together over 120 weavers from 40 communities, along with researchers, designers, and textile enthusiasts, to promote knowledge-sharing and innovation in the traditional handloom weaving industry.
Held from November 19 to 22, 2025, in Ilocos Norte as part of the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week, the festival was organized by DOST–PTRI in partnership with local government units and private sponsors.
Participants toured key cultural and weaving landmarks, including weaving villages, churches, and heritage sites across La Union and the Ilocos Region.
The event featured the Hinabi Textile Bazaar, Textile Exchange & Fora, Techno Demo Weaving Workshop, Philippine Ikat Symposium, and KatHABI Exhibit, providing platforms for learning, skill development, and collaboration.
The festival emphasized the fusion of traditional weaving with science and technology, highlighting DOST–PTRI’s mission to enhance the global competitiveness of Filipino weavers.
