Far Eastern University (FEU) defeated defending champions National University (NU) 22-25, 25-22, 13-25, 25-22, 15-13 in Game 1 of the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball finals.
Dryx Saavedra starred for FEU, scoring a game-high 25 points, including 21 attacks, three blocks, and an ace, bringing the Tamaraws within one win of their first championship since 2012.
Amet Samuel Bituin added 16 points, while Mikko Espartero contributed 10 points and 26 excellent receptions.
FEU’s victory marked NU’s first loss in the finals since Season 79, ending their four-year championship streak.
The Tamaraws will aim for their 26th title in the decisive Game 2 on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
