Former Iloilo City mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has been appointed as undersecretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), focusing on public safety and local government reforms.
He was sworn in by DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla, who said Mabilog’s return to government service is not driven by revenge.
Mabilog previously fled to the United States in 2017 after being accused by former president Rodrigo Duterte of protecting illegal drug operations.
He returned to the Philippines in 2024, surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation, and was later granted executive clemency by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in January 2025.
Mabilog has denied all allegations linking him to drug syndicates.
