EU COMMISSION LEADER URSULA VON DER LEYEN TOUCHES DOWN IN THE PHILIPPINES

The leader of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has come to the Philippines for an important visit.

She is the first top leader from the European Commission to visit the Philippines in almost 60 years.

The EU ambassador to the Philippines, Luc Véron, shared photos of her arrival, which happened after 5 p.m. on Sunday and the Philippine officials warmly welcomed her.

Her visit was announced by Malacañang last week, and she will stay in the country until August 1.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. invited her to visit during their meeting in Brussels at the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit in December last year.

The purpose of her visit is to strengthen the relationship between the European Union and the Philippines.

They want to talk about things that both sides care about, like trade, going green with the environment, embracing digital technology, and working together to ensure security.

During her stay, she will meet with President Marcos Jr. and will also speak at events organized by the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, along with the Makati Business Club.
