Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada has proposed a specialized AI training program for government employees to equip them with the knowledge of AI’s benefits and risks.
Filing Senate Bill 2930, Estrada emphasized that AI is reshaping industries worldwide, and government agencies must enhance civil servants’ skills to keep up with evolving technology.
The bill mandates the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to develop an AI training program covering AI fundamentals, benefits, risks, and national security concerns.
The training, to be conducted every two years, would be funded under the national budget and applied to personnel in program management, research, engineering, procurement, and logistics.
Estrada believes investing in AI literacy will future-proof the workforce and improve public service efficiency.
