Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero urged authorities on Wednesday, Nov. 5, to ensure that prices of basic goods and prime commodities remain stable in areas hit by Typhoon Tino.
He emphasized that close monitoring is needed to prevent exploitation by unscrupulous merchants, citing Republic Act No. 10623, which protects consumers during disasters.
Escudero stressed the importance of providing sufficient food, medicine, and repair materials for affected families.
Under RA 10623, price control applies to essential items—including potable water, fresh fruits, instant noodles, LPG, and kerosene—during a state of calamity for up to 60 days.
As of noon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported 66 deaths caused by the typhoon.
