Senator Erwin Tulfo, newly appointed chair of the Senate Committee on Social Justice, Welfare, and Rural Development, vowed to review and propose amendments to the 4Ps law following a meeting with DSWD officials.
Tulfo highlighted concerns over some beneficiaries receiving cash grants despite improved living conditions, calling the situation an abuse of the program and urging a fairer allocation of aid.
The DSWD proposed removing the current seven-year limit for 4Ps assistance, warning that 2.4 million beneficiaries could be forced out despite ongoing need.
Other potential reforms discussed include entrepreneurship programs for low-income families and institutionalizing existing social welfare initiatives.
Tulfo also pledged support for rehabilitating the DSWD building to improve working conditions for social workers.
