The ABS-CBN Film Restoration Project, also known as Sagip Pelikula, officially concluded its 14-year run on March 31, 2025, with the final set of restored films handed over throughout April.
Chair Leo Katigbak acknowledged that the project’s closure was a result of ABS-CBN losing its franchise in 2020, which limited resources in its final months.
Despite the challenges, Sagip Pelikula successfully restored over 200 films, some dating back to 1939, with the final films screened including Tatlong Ina, Isang Anak, which starred Nora Aunor, a bookend to its first restoration of Himala.
Katigbak expressed gratitude to fellow executives, industry supporters, and entities like schools and malls that helped promote the initiative.
He concluded with a hopeful message about the importance of preserving the past for future generations, emphasizing the project’s lasting impact on Filipino cinema.Source: PhilNews24 | May 2, 2025
