Sen. Joseph Victor Ejercito has filed a resolution seeking an inquiry into high domestic airfares and weak infrastructure that hamper local tourism.
The probe aims to review the implementation of the National Tourism Development Plan and assess the readiness of the country’s tourism facilities.
Ejercito said exorbitant flight fares discourage Filipinos from traveling within the country and negatively affect communities reliant on tourism.
He also cited deficiencies in airports, seaports, roads, and tourist facilities, which contribute to costly domestic travel compared to trips abroad.
The senator said addressing these gaps is crucial to improving competitiveness, accessibility, and achieving the country’s tourism targets.
