Former President Rodrigo Duterte has urged Filipinos to pray for peace and justice amid his criticism of the Philippine National Police’s handling of the search for televangelist Apollo Quiboloy in Davao City.
Duterte accused the police of abuse and of causing the death of a KOJC member, which they attributed to fatigue.
Some lawmakers have criticized Duterte’s call, noting the irony given his previous administration’s controversial drug war.
They argue that while Quiboloy is receiving due process, many victims of Duterte’s drug war are not.
In response, House Deputy Majority Leader Jude Acidre has called for Duterte to support law enforcement in serving Quiboloy’s arrest warrant, emphasizing the need for legal adherence.
