DTI ENFORCES FLEXIBLE WORK ARRANGEMENT; BUSINESS SECTOR OPEN TO ADOPTION

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will implement a flexible work scheme starting March 9 to reduce fuel consumption in response to President Marcos’ call amid rising global fuel prices.

Under Memorandum Order 26-886, most job order and contract workers, excluding frontline staff, will work from home every Friday, with DTI transactions conducted online and building systems operating at reduced capacity.

Shuttle operations will run on a rotating schedule, while elevator, lighting, and air-conditioning systems will be scaled back.

Business groups expressed openness to flexible work arrangements and a four-day workweek but noted that such measures may not be feasible for all sectors and require careful planning.

Leaders emphasized that any adjustments should be sector-sensitive, evidence-based, and designed to avoid disruptions in output, delivery schedules, and supply chains.
