The drainage system rehabilitation on G. Araneta Avenue is expected to be completed by mid-February, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said Thursday.
The project, which began in March 2025, aims to address severe flooding that can sometimes exceed a person’s height.
Narrow 36-inch pipes are being replaced with 1.5-meter-long drainage pipes, effectively doubling the area’s drainage capacity.
Dizon said the project aligns with President Marcos Jr.’s directive to declog Metro Manila’s rivers and waterways ahead of the wet season.
Work is being fast-tracked to take advantage of the dry season and reduce flooding before June.
