DOTR DENIES NEGLECTING PUV DRIVER CONCERNS IN WAKE OF STRIKE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has denied allegations that they have not addressed the concerns of public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators ahead of a three-day strike organized by a transport group.

Manibela’s chair, Mar Valbuena, had accused the DOTr of ignoring the issues raised by PUV drivers, which included alleged preferential treatment towards corporations and local government units.

However, DOTr claimed that they have been in consultation with PUV drivers and operators on various issues, including the Local Public Transport Route Plan, for several weeks.

The agency challenged Manibela to provide concrete proof of their allegations and said that their strike is intended to seek media attention rather than address the concerns of drivers and operators.

DOTr also warned that they would not be held hostage and will address legitimate concerns through consultations and forums.
