Minimum wage earners in Metro Manila are set to receive a salary increase as a wage review process is about to begin.
Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma announced that the pay adjustments will benefit around four million minimum wage earners and an additional eight million workers across the country.
All 17 Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs) have complied with President Marcos’ directive to start deliberations ahead of the anniversary of the last wage order.
Labor groups are pushing for a legislated wage hike or the adoption of a living wage, while Laguesma emphasized that collective bargaining agreements could also be used for salary adjustments.
Additionally, the Department of Labor and Employment will host job fairs on May 1, offering 170,000 local and overseas job opportunities, along with livelihood projects and Kadiwa stores for discounted goods.
