DOE AND PNP RAMP UP SURVEILLANCE ON LPG FACILITIES

The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) have partnered to conduct thorough inspections and investigate potential criminal violations at liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) facilities.

Under a memorandum of agreement, both agencies will implement Oplan LIRA to enforce the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Industry Regulation Act (LIRA), aimed at ensuring the safe operations of the LPG industry. The PNP’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) will assist the DOE in inspecting various facilities, including retailers, refillers, and vehicles involved in LPG transportation.

Moreover, the CIDG will be vigilant for any criminal violations under the LIRA, taking proactive measures such as surveillance, entrapment, and initiating legal actions against violators.

Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla emphasized the government’s commitment to upholding safety standards and mitigating risks associated with LPG operations. As of 2023, approximately 15,000 business establishments in the LPG trade have been licensed by the DOE.

This collaboration underscores the importance of strict monitoring and enforcement to ensure responsible and sustainable practices within the LPG industry, prioritizing the safety of both lives and property.
