President Marcos has ordered newly appointed Public Works Secretary Vivencio Dizon to launch a “clean sweep” of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), starting with the courtesy resignations of officials from undersecretaries to district engineers.
Dizon vowed to remove incompetent and corrupt personnel, blacklist contractors involved in ghost and substandard projects, and revamp the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) with the Department of Trade and Industry.
The move comes amid widespread criticism of anomalous flood control projects and revelations of gambling-linked DPWH officials.
Dizon acknowledged that fixing decades-long infrastructure and flooding issues will take time, but stressed the importance of accountability and vigilance against corruption.
Business groups, lawmakers, and the Quezon City government expressed support for Dizon’s leadership, while activists warned that systemic corruption must still be addressed through concrete cases.
