DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon has urged a cut in the proposed P268 billion flood control budget for 2026 to avoid redundant spending.
The total DPWH budget for next year is P880 billion, with flood control projects making up over 32 percent.
Dizon emphasized prioritizing high-risk areas and ensuring funds are used for needed repairs instead of unnecessary new projects.
House appropriations chair Mikaela Suansing agreed, saying only projects in “red zones” identified by Project NOAH should be funded.
She also stressed that only projects supported by feasibility studies and Regional Development Councils should be included in the budget.
