The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered all elective local officials to refrain from traveling abroad from November 9 to 15 amid the threat of Typhoon Uwan.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla emphasized that governors, mayors, barangay captains, and other officials must be present on the ground to lead pre-disaster preparations, response, and recovery efforts.
The order comes after public criticism over the absence of local officials in Cebu during Typhoon Tino, which caused 139 deaths and left 96 missing.
Citing the Local Government Code of 1991 and RA 10121, Remulla said officials must provide hands-on leadership throughout all phases of disaster management.
Local governments are also urged to assist communities, prevent overpricing, and coordinate with regional and provincial disaster offices to ensure timely and unified action.
