DICT CRACKS DOWN ON ELECTION TEXT BLAST MACHINES FROM CHINA

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is cracking down on text blast machines that were used during elections and are now being sold at a low price.

These machines, which connect to computers or laptops, send random text messages to many phone numbers.

DICT mentioned that they have confiscated many of these machines, which were imported from China.

Even though the deadline for mandatory SIM registration passed on July 25th, DICT is still investigating other methods, particularly computer-based transmissions, that criminal groups use for text scams.

The SIM Registration Act aims to combat crimes like text and online scams by regulating the sale and use of SIM cards through user registration.
