DFA ASSURES FILIPINOS IN US SAFE AMID TRUMP DEPORTATION CRACKDOWN

Despite the U.S. crackdown on illegal immigrants, DFA Secretary Enrique Manalo assured that Filipinos in the country are “doing well” due to their strong reputation in various industries.

Speaking at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing, he highlighted the contributions of Filipinos in healthcare, banking, hotel services, and management.

Manalo also emphasized that Philippine embassies and consulates are prepared to assist Filipinos in need, following reports of recent deportations involving individuals with criminal records.

Meanwhile, Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Jose Manuel Romualdez noted that around 80 more Filipinos are awaiting deportation.

Separately, Manalo reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to the WHO and the Paris Climate Agreement, despite former U.S. President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from both.
