A confessed Chinese spy, She Zhijiang, has implicated detained former Bamban mayor Alice Guo in connections to China’s intelligence and security services.
In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera for a documentary, She claimed he was recruited as a spy by a man he met in the Philippines, who promised to resolve his legal troubles in exchange for his cooperation.
She presented a dossier allegedly linking Guo, referred to as Guo Hua Ping, to China, including details about her birthplace and family, which were corroborated by residents in Fujian.
Despite these allegations, Guo has consistently denied being a Chinese citizen or a spy and recently pleaded not guilty to qualified trafficking charges in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Guo is undergoing treatment for a lung infection while maintaining that she receives no special treatment as a detainee.
