DENR PUSHES LGUS FOR STRICTER WASTE MANAGEMENT ENFORCEMENT

The DENR urged local government units (LGUs) to enforce the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act following increased trash in Metro Manila after New Year celebrations.

The department emphasized that proper waste management is crucial for public health and environmental protection.

Despite 89% of LGUs having approved solid waste plans, the DENR called for improved action. It also offered technical support to LGUs facing implementation challenges.

Manila Mayor Lacuna criticized the waste management firm, which denied responsibility, citing the contract’s expiration on December 31, 2024.
